Your rights, in plain English
Two sets of rules, one idea: when a flight goes badly wrong, the airline owes you a fixed sum. Start with the rules that cover your flight, then check how long you have.
Flights from the EU, or into it on an EU airline
EU261
€250, €400 or €600 per passenger.
Flights from the UK, or into it on a UK or EU airline
UK261
£220, £350 or £520 per passenger.
How long you have, by country
The time limit comes from the national law of wherever the claim is brought — usually where your flight departed or arrived. These figures are still being confirmed by a lawyer before launch.
